Living Oprah: My One-Year Experiment to Walk the Walk of the Queen of Talk,

The title and description struck me, somehow, as not-so-serious; and the tone and the content supported that impression- but now that it's been 45 minutes since I finished it, I feel like this is a book almost every woman should read.

I know a lot of us read self-help books or watch shows that are supposed to motivate/inspire/uplift us- and much of the time we come away feeling like slackers. We get all this advice piled on us and it seems like- if we don't have a perfect life it is only because we are too lazy to take advantage of all the help these nice people have gone to so much trouble to offer us.

This book shows you what would happen if you really did follow every single piece of advice. After reading it, I bet you'll never beat yourself up again.

Local Author to speak at Helen Hall Library

Readers in the greater Houston area have long enjoyed Cindy Price's column A Slice of Life, which explores the humor and irony found in everyday life. Cindy is also a naturalist, writing and photographing for the educational Urban Naturalist column. In all her writings, Cindy shares her zest for life.
Her first book, The Second Bailout, is a true World War II story. Her latest book, In My Humble Opinion, is a collection of her thoughtful essays that leave readers laughing or crying, and most certainly with a new way of looking at the ordinary things that surround us each day.
Proceeds from her books benefit local museums, animal welfare organizations, and nature centers. She and her husband live in League City.

Three Pines Mysteries by Louise Penny

In a quaint village outside of Quebec that can only be found by rumbling around the countryside or because you know it is there, lives an assortment of eccentric locals who feel safe and removed from society’s ills. As murder is visited upon the unsuspecting villagers, Chief Inspector Armand Gamache of the Surete du Quebec comes to Three Pines to solve each case and ferret out whatever evil lurks among the villagers.

There are five titles in the Three Pines Mysteries by Louise Penny; Still Life, A Fatal Grace, The Cruelest Month, A Rule Against Murder and The Brutal Telling. Each book gets deeper into the mysteries of Three Pines and propels you to the next. This author's books have received starred reviews in Booklist, Publishers Weekly, and Library Journal.

Make a Valentine's Day Card @ Your Library

Children in grades K-5 will design a special Valentine's Day card at our craft buffet using cardstock, sequins, feathers, foam, glitter and more.

February 5 from 10:00 to 11:00 am

Art on a Cart

Children ages 3 to 5 years will create art from the heart with Valentine's Day cards.

Holiday Open House Dec. 3rd

Come celebrate the season at Helen Hall Library's Holiday Open House on Dec. 3rd from 5:00-6:30 pm. We will serve refreshments, and the Teen Advisory Board will have crafts for children to make. Santa arrives at 5 pm--remember to bring your camera!
